Steve Belisle: Local Muralist

When I finally met Steve of @east_mental, Daytona Beach raised spray paint artist after following him on social media for a while, I had to commission a piece JUST to watch his process. While I assumed an outline or some type of sketch would precede the melding of colors and shapes via Rustoleum brand spray paint, which is the only paint that Steve ever uses, you know what they say about assuming…

I already knew I was an ass but watching the mural all come together was stirring until the very last moment as he applied the outlines, unifying the wall.

How has your art evolved over the years? It hasn’t changed much but I have taught myself a lot with the cans for sure.

How has your life been affected from practicing your art? I went homeless following a dream and that dream bought me a home

Have you ever walked away from painting? For how long? No. Never

How much time has your longest project taken? Henry’s Pizza in Daytona Beach

What is the best thing about being an artist? It’s just fun

What artists influence you? Dali for sure and Banksy Also, all of my friends

What advice would you give your younger self? None- no regrets

Do habits help or hinder creativity? I’d say it all helps in some type of way

What is your favorite Disney movie? Pirates of Caribbean DUH

If you could stay at any age, what age would you want to be forever? Age is man-made, I do not believe in that sh*t
